$15M seized from Mexican drug traffickers

TIJUANA, Mexico, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- More than $15 million was seized from a vehicle allegedly belonging to a well-known drug cartel in Tijuana, Mexico, authorities said.

Authorities allege the money belonged to the Sinaloa cartel headed by Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

The car -- which also contained 3 kilos (6.6 pounds) of cocaine, four weapons and jewelry -- was heading to a house that police say served as a financial operations center for the cartel. Mexican soldiers stopped the car Friday as part of an ongoing investigation of drug trafficking in the area.

No arrests had been made in the case, but police say the Sinaloa cartel has grown into the dominate drug trafficking organization in the Baja California region.
