2 Turks injured in Syrian attack on buses

ISTANBUL, Turkey, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Two Turkish citizens were injured in an attack on three buses at a Syrian checkpoint, Turkey's Foreign Ministry said Monday.

The ministry said the passengers, pilgrims from Mecca, were returning home when the attack occurred near the Syrian city of Homs.

The Turkish NTV news channel said a bus driver and one of the passengers were injured in the attack.

The Turkish Dogan news agency said a group of uniformed people attacked the buses, firing guns, throwing stones and confiscating valuables.

The Italian news agency Agenzia Giornalistica Italia said eight Syrian soldiers ordered the passengers off the bus and began shooting as they tried to hide.

The Dogan agency said the buses crossed into Turkey after the attack and the two injured people were treated at hospitals.
