Knife-wielding man stabs police officers

LONDON, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A man who grabbed a knife in a London butcher's shop stabbed three police officers Saturday before he was subdued, witnesses said.

Police described the man as a 32-year-old and said he was being held on suspicion of attempted murder, The Daily Telegraph reported. Another officer and a fifth person were also injured.

Officers responded Saturday morning to a report of a disturbance in the Kingsbury neighborhood in North London. Shopkeepers described the man yelling and ducking in and out of stores.

Ketan Vyas, manager of VB and sons, said the man grabbed cans of beans and threw them at the officers who pursued him. Girish Modha, another shopkeeper, said he threw a brick through a police car window.

"He then ran round the roundabout and carried on towards the Tube station," Modha added. "He went into a butcher's, got a knife and that's when the stabbing took place."

An ambulance service spokeswoman said all of the injured were conscious when they were taken to hospital.
