Trials in Egypt protest deaths to resume

CAIRO, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A court says the trial of Egyptian interior ministry officials accused of involvement in the killing of protesters during political unrest will resume.

The demonstrations eventually led to the collapse in February of the regime of President Hosni Mubarak, who also is on trial.

The Mansoura Criminal Court of the Daqahlia Governate said it would resume the trials Tuesday, al-Masry al-Youm reported.

Abul Nassr Othman, first attorney general for Mansoura's appeals prosecution, charged four interior ministry officials who occupied security positions in Daqahlia during the revolution with inciting killings of protesters.

The court had earlier heard statements of Maj. Gen. Mohamed Ghazy, former head of State Security Investigations Service in Daqahlia Governorate, and Maj. Gen. Mostafa Baz, former public security chief.

The court said it would take statements Tuesday from Brig. Gen. Mostafa Basha, former chief of Daqahlia's investigations department and current chief of public security.

Political forces urged protests in support of victims' families and those injured during the revolution.
