CAIRO, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Egyptian activists threatened a "new revolution" if the ruling military junta doesn't withdraw a proposal to remove parliamentary oversight of the military.

"It is needed now to put pressure on the military to end its strangle on politics in this country," Amr Yussif, a 26-year-old activist, told bikyamasr.com Sunday.

Political groups threatened a "new revolution" if the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces does not withdraw the oversight proposal before a Nov. 28 vote by the new Parliament.

"Those meeting today are in agreement that the constitutional document proposed is absolutely rejected by all," Mohamed Saad el-Katatni, secretary-general of the Freedom and Justice Party, said

Activists and rights groups have been demanding an end to military trials for civilians, saying some 12,000 Egyptians have been jailed through the controversial military courts.

Activists said they would meet Wednesday to discuss new protests if the military fails to withdraw the proposal.

"We are ready to take to the streets and more and more people are becoming angry at the violence that is being perpetrated against Egyptians in recent weeks," one activist said.
