ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Two terror attacks in northwestern Pakistan killed 16 people and injured nine others Sunday, regional officials said.
Both attacks occurred in the province of Khyber, the first being a mortar shelling and the second a remotely detonated bomb hidden in a donkey cart in a market, China's Xinhua news agency reported.
At 10:20 a.m., a mortar shell hit a house in Sipah, killing five adults and three children, the report said.
Soon after in the Teerah Valley, a bomb exploded in a market and killed eight people, regional officials said.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility, although the Press Trust of India said the attacks had the hallmarks of the Taliban extremist group. The Khyber Agency, or province, borders Afghanistan.
Pakistani security forces are also fighting another Muslim extremist group known as Lashkar-e-Islam in the region, PTI said.
