OTTAWA, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- A Canadian newspaper said Wednesday it will serialize the names and details of every Canadian soldier killed in conflict since World War I on Twitter.
The Ottawa Citizen said a computer algorithm would update its "WeAreTheDead" account with the names of more than 119,000 dead soldiers once per hour.
"It will take more than 13 years to tweet all the names, finishing sometime in late June 2025," the newspaper said.
The postings will begin Thursday, ahead of the observance of Friday's Remembrance Day, known as Veterans Day in the United States.
Using data from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the newspaper intends to post every military death record from the two World Wars, the Korean War, Afghanistan, and peacekeeping duties.
The newspaper's managing editor, Andrew Potter, said the Nov. 11 observance of soldiers' sacrifices deserves a broader observance.
"Through this Twitter account, and through more extensive use of social media down the line, we hope to make the act of keeping faith a more subtle, but in many ways more permanent, feature of the lives of Canadians," Potter said.
