Timing of Serbia's EU bid questioned

BRUSSELS, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- The European Union could be asked to decide on Serbia's EU candidacy as early as next month, the head of Poland's foreign ministry says.

Polish Foreign Minister Artur Harazim said Monday the issue will likely be discussed by EU foreign ministers Dec. 5 before being decided by heads of state Dec. 9, Tanjug reported.

Harazim told a panel in Brussels Monday the issue of EU enlargement remains a Polish priority although Germany and France have requested a final decision on Serbia's candidacy be postponed to next year.

The European Commission has said the re-establishment of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is a crucial condition to Serbia's entry into the European Union.
