GUATEMALA CITY, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Retired Gen. Otto Perez Molina won Guatemala's presidential runoff Sunday, election results showed.
With 98 percent of the votes counted, Perez Molina had about 54 percent of the vote to about 46 percent for businessman Manuel Baldizon, CNN and Voice of America reported.
Both Perez Molina, of the right-wing Patriotic Party, and Baldizon, of the Democratic Freedom Rival Party, ran on anti-crime platforms.
Perez Molina, who received the most votes in the first round of voting in September, will succeed President Alvaro Colom, who defeated him in 2007, in mid-January.
The former general led government troops during Guatemala's decades-long civil war that ended in 1996. While more than 200,000 people disappeared or were killed during that era, Perez Molina has not been implicated in any wrongdoing.
