Dreamliner landing gear failed to engage

TOKYO, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- All Nippon Airways said Monday it was investigating a malfunction in the landing gear of a new Boeing 787 Dreamliner a week after the plane was put in service.

Airline officials said an error message flashed that the landing gear wasn't properly engaged as the plane from Tokyo approached Okayama Sunday morning, forcing pilots to use a manual system to lower the gear, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The problem caused a 30-minute delay in the plane's arrival.

All Nippon said the problem didn't occur during flight tests conducted before introducing the Dreamliner into domestic service Tuesday.

An airline spokeswoman said the landing gear didn't deploy because of a problem with a hydraulic valve and that airline officials were investigating to determine the exact cause.

The spokeswoman said the glitch was a minor malfunction that "occurs frequently on other aircraft," the Journal said
