TEHRAN, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Iran's foreign minister Saturday called the International Atomic Energy Agency's allegations Iran is seeking a nuclear weapon capability baseless.
In a joint conference with Burundian Foreign Minister Augustin Nsanze, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said the IAEA is free to reveal the evidence it says it has against Iran, contending he believes the agency's claims are baseless and not authentic, Iran's PressTV reported.
"If the IAEA is impartial, it should resist the pressures exerted by certain countries and do its job professionally," the Iranian foreign minister said.
Iran has consistently denied allegations by the United States, Israel and their European allies that the country is pursuing a military use for the nuclear expertise it is developing.
The country says that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and that numerous searches of Iran's nuclear facilities have provided no evidence to the contrary.
