Egypt to free Israeli in prisoner swap?

CAIRO, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Israel has agreed to a prisoner exchange for the release of Ouda Tarabin, a Bedouin Israeli convicted of espionage in Egypt, an Egyptian official says.

The Kuwaiti daily newspaper al Tarida said the source, described as a senior official, said the Egyptian government is trying "to gain the greatest profits" from the exchange, Ynetnews reported. He said Israel plans to free political prisoners this time, not those convicted of drug and weapons crimes.

Tarabin has been imprisoned in Egypt for 11 years. The exchange is expected in mid-November at the time of the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice.

In late October, Ilan Grapel, a New York law student accused of espionage, was freed by Egypt in exchange for 25 prisoners. He had been a prisoner for four months.

Earlier in October, Israel agreed to free more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners for the return of Gilad Shalit, a soldier kidnapped and held in Gaza.
