JAKARTA, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- A 5.4-magnitude earthquake rattled the Mentawai Islands District of Indonesia's West Sumatra Province Wednesday morning, officials said.
The quake's epicenter was located about 26 miles southeast of Sipora Mentawai, Antara News reported.
The depth of the epicenter was about 18 miles, Indonesia's Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics office said.
There was no immediate word on damage, but officials said there was no risk of a subsequent tsunami.
"The earthquake hitting Mentawai did not have potential to trigger a tsunami," Ade Edwar of the West Sumatra Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) said.
"We are still waiting for reports on the damages caused by the temblor from the Mentawai BPBD," he said.
A 7.2 earthquake in the Mentawai Islands in October 2010 generated a six-foot tsunami that killed 413 people.
