Bomber targets Afghan official, kills boy

KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- A suicide bomber targeting an intelligence official in northern Afghanistan wounded him and seven others and killed an 8-year-old boy, officials said.

The attack Monday in the northern province of Faryab targeted Sayed Ahmad Sadatt, the head of the local branch of Afghanistan's main intelligence service, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Sadaat was in fair condition after the attack. Five other intelligence officers and two civilians were also wounded when the explosion hit Sadaat's vehicle in the provincial capital, Maimana.

The others, including the child, were not identified.
