Nigerian comedian held as drug suspect

LAGOS, Nigeria, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A Nigerian comedian was held in Lagos on suspicion of drug trafficking after a body scan detected what looked like drugs in his stomach, an official said.

Babatunde Omidina, who is known as the comedian Baba Suwe, was arrested about 10 p.m. Wednesday at Murtala Mohammed International Airport as he was about to board a flight to Paris, Mitchell Ofoyeju, a spokesman for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, told Vanguard.

Investigators were waiting to see if Omidina excreted drugs, the BBC said.

Omidina acts in English and Yoruba language films, often playing a befuddled butler or security guard.

The BBC said drugs are often trafficked from Nigeria to Europe and the United States.
