U.S. paratroopers injured in training

HOHENFELS, Germany, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- More than two dozen U.S. Army paratroopers were injured in a parachute training exercise in Germany involving some 1,300 soldiers, military officials said.

Thirty-five paratroopers were treated for injuries Wednesday, including 25 transported to hospitals following a parachute drop involving soldiers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team and several multinational units. Stars and Stripes said 13 paratroopers suffered head, spine and pelvic injuries during the training exercise at Hohenfels Training Area.

An officer helping lead the clinic said some of the injuries appeared related to parachutes drifting into nearby trees, the report said.

Officials said most of the injuries occurred during the first wave of the morning drop, which involved about 650 soldiers.
