Rioters burn local government building in Israel

JERUSALEM, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Israeli Arabs from Tuba Zangaria, an Upper Galilee village whose mosque was torched, set fire to a local council building, officials said.

Rioters also shattered windows and damaged property at a youth cultural center and medical clinic in the Bedouin village, Ynetnews.com reported Tuesday.

Protesters rallied in nearby Rosh Pina against the Bedouin mosque burning, chanting "Jews and Arabs refuse to be enemies" and "Price Tag -- we all pay a price."

Police in the region, who suspect Jewish extremists are responsible for Monday's "price tag" attack against the mosque, are on high alert over concerns Israeli Arabs will carry out revenge attacks or Jewish extremists may cause further problems, Haaretz reported.

Israeli President Shimon Peres, accompanied by Jewish, Muslim and Christian leaders, visited the mosque Monday.

"I am appalled by what happened here. Shocked to my core. This isn't just against the law, it goes against the Jewish religion and against morals," he said.
