Memorial to slain teen vandalized

LONDON, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- A memorial plaque at the place in London where a black teenager was killed in 1993 in a racially charged case has been vandalized again, police said.

Videotape from a security camera shows a white man dropping a bottle early Saturday evening on the plaque honoring Stephen Lawrence, The Daily Telegraph reported. The man is accompanied by a woman pushing a baby stroller.

The footage was released Monday.

Lawrence, 18, an aspiring architect, was waiting for a bus when he was stabbed. Five men were arrested soon after, but no one has yet been convicted.

Two suspects who were arrested in 2010 appeared in court last week.

A report on the police investigation released in 1999 found "institutional racism" in the Metropolitan Police.

The memorial plaque in Eltham has been daubed with white paint and had liquids poured on it. Police have reported at least four instances of vandalism over the years.
