BEIJING, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will meet in China in October with Prime Minister Wen Jiabao on economic cooperation and other issues, a spokesman said.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Friday Putin's official visit is set for Oct. 11-12, the official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.
Wen and Putin will also discuss plans for cooperation in trade, people-to-people exchanges and other areas, Xinhua said.
Putin also will meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders for talks on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.
The regular meetings between Chinese and Russian prime ministers began in 1996 and have become an "important platform for guiding and coordinating bilateral cooperation," Xinhua said.
Hong said the two countries have supported each other on issues including sovereignty and security, while increasing cooperation on major energy, science and military technology projects.
