ANKARA, Turkey, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Turkish officials said they spotted two Israeli F-15 jets crossing Cyprus' airspace and approaching the Turkish coastline, ignoring air controllers' warnings.
A ship searching for gas reservoirs near Cyprus reported the two jets hovering above it Thursday night.
The jets reportedly retreated only after two F-16 jets were dispatched by Turkey, Ynetnews reported.
An Israeli spokesperson was unable to verify the report, saying the military was "unfamiliar" with the incident.
Earlier this week, Turkey revealed its first domestically conceived and produced battleship during a ceremony. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the endeavor placed Turkey among the 10 leading countries that are able to produce their own battleships.
