LONDONDERRY, Northern Ireland, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A bomb was discovered early Wednesday outside the home of a doctor in Northern Ireland, and another went off 5 hours later at a police officer's house.
There were no injuries in either incident, The Irish Times reported. The police officer was not home, and Dr. Keith Munro and his wife were immediately evacuated from their house after a police patrol discovered the explosive.
A British Army bomb disposal team defused the bomb at Munro's house outside the village of Claudy in County Derry. The other bomb, about 10 miles away near Eglinton, damaged the front of the house.
Both bombs were believed to be the work of the Real IRA, a Republican splinter group. Three men were detained in Derry for questioning.
Munro, a prominent member of the Bahai faith, was a medical officer with the police for 40 years. The other bomb was aimed at a Catholic who joined the Police Service of Northern Ireland three years ago.
