Drone strike kills at least 3 in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- At least three people died in a suspected U.S. drone strike in Pakistan's North Waziristan, believed to be a haven for militants, intelligence officials said.

The Sunday attack occurred near Khaasu Khel village along the border with Afghanistan, CNN reported quoting Pakistani intelligence officials.

Pakistan's News International, citing tribal sources in the region, reported five people died in the strike on a house and a vehicle in the village.

The report said the drone fired two missiles at the house and a pickup truck parked there. Some local people said a group of armed militants arrived later and took control of the area.

CNN reported North Waziristan is the home base of the Pakistani Taliban and described by Washington as a safe haven for militant groups for planning insurgency against coalition forces in Afghanistan.
