5 killed in terrorist attack in Turkey

SEMDINLI, Turkey, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Two terrorist attacks in Turkey killed three civilians and two security personnel, authorities said.

Hakkari province Gov. Muammer Türker said 10 people, including 7 gendarmes, were injured during the Sunday attacks on a gendarmerie command unit and the police department in Semdinli, Today's Zaman reported.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, considered a terrorist group by Turkish officials, carried out attacks, officials said.

The governor said a large-scale security operation is making process toward capturing terrorists.

The PKK has recently intensified its attacks in east and southeast Turkey, killing more than 40 soldiers in the past few months.
