Al-Farra: League should focus on Palestine

CAIRO, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- The 136th session of the Arab League should promote the Palestinian cause, the country's representative and President of the Arab League Barakat al-Farra says.

The council met Sunday in Cairo as al-Farra replaced Oman's representative as president of the Arab League, the Palestinian Ma'an News Agency reported.

Al-Farra said other Arab countries should offer support to Palestine in its upcoming bid to be recognized as a member state by the United Nations.

He said he hoped the session would also meet Arab people's ambitions, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

"Everybody is looking forward to this session which coincides with major events in the Arab world, namely the Arab Spring, and so it should meet ambitions," al-Farra said.
