JERUSALEM, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- At least three rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza since Islamic Jihad said it would join a cease-fire announced by Hamas.

A Grad rocket landed Friday afternoon near Ashkelon, Ynetnews.com reported. Two Kassam rockets hit open areas near the Shaar HaNegev Regional Council at about 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

Alon Shuster, head of the regional council, said rockets are a fact of life near the border. In recent years, he said, lulls have lasted no more than a week or two.

"The area next to the fence is a permanent battle field with ceaseless skirmishes. The residents here aren't delusional, and realize that this is the reality," Shuster told Ynet. "It's important that decision makers realize that a cease-fire refers only to urban centers, and not to the communities in the fence vicinity."

Islamic Jihad announced Thursday it was joining the cease-fire.
