TOKYO, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Japan's quake-tsunami ravaged Fukushima Prefecture was jolted by a strong quake Friday morning but the crippled nuclear plant there reported no new trouble.
Japan's Meteorological Agency measured the quake at 6-magnitude but issued no tsunami warning, Kyodo News reported. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The United States Geological Service measured the magnitude at 5.9 off the east coast of Japan's Honshu Island. The quake at a depth of 23.6 miles struck at 3:22 a.m. local time and its epicenter was about 11 miles east-southeast of Iwaki and 116 miles northeast of Tokyo.
The region is still recovering from the March 11 magnitude-9 earthquake followed by a monstrous tsunami. The disaster killed or left missing more than 20,000 people, drove several thousands more from their homes and set off an unprecedented nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant that workers are still trying to bring under full control.
The Kyodo report said Friday's quake was not as strong near the nuclear plant site. The utility that operates the plant said there were no new abnormalities either at the crippled plant or the nearby Daini plant.
The quake was felt in Miyagi, Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures.
