Deadly storm heads toward China

BEIJING, July 28 (UPI) -- A tropical storm that killed at least 25 people in the Philippines is now headed for China, officials said.

Five provinces in southern China were put on alert as tropical storm Nock-ten moved out of the Philippines and toward China, Xinhua, China's official state-run news agency, reported Thursday.

China's National Commission for Disaster Reduction and the Ministry of Civil Affairs warned emergency offices in Guangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan and Yunnan provinces to prepare for the storm.

Officials also asked three government-owned storage bases holding disaster relief supplies in the cities of Fuzhou, Nanning and Kunming to be ready to help if needed.
