MINNA, Niger, July 26 (UPI) -- Niger police said they arrested seven people for unauthorized possession of chemicals used for making explosives.
Richard Oguche, the public relations officer of the Niger State Police Command, said in Minna the chemicals were seized by police from the house of Alhaji Bature on Wednesday, the Nigerian newspaper The Nation reported.
"From our findings the chemicals are high explosives that can only be used by licensed explosives end users. But from our investigation, Alhaji Bature is neither a licensed retailer nor an end user. The claim that they used it for mining could not be genuine,'' Oguche said.
Oguche did not provide the names of the other suspects due to an ongoing investigation, and said everyone linked to the case would be held responsible.
Oguche also did not provide information on whether the explosives were connected to four bomb explosions in Suleja, Niger. He said the investigation would indicate whether there was any link.
