BRUSSELS, July 26 (UPI) -- The European Commission said Tuesday it is stepping up efforts to combat extremism after the Oslo, Norway, massacre.
An "early-warning" network on racist, xenophobic and terrorist threats will go into effect in September, spokesman Michele Cercone told the Russia's RIA Novosti.
On Monday, officials in Brussels urged more restrictions on selling guns and chemical materials that can be used to make bombs like the one that shook the Norwegian capital Friday.
"Compromise is easier to reach after shocking events such as those in Norway," Cercone said.
Admitted mass killer Anders Breivik stated in his Internet manifesto that he made the bomb from fertilizer he bought for his organic farm company and gave detailed instructions for making explosives.
