MOSCOW, July 25 (UPI) -- Six more bodies were inside the sunken cruise ship MS Bulgaria, bringing the death toll to 120, officials said Sunday.
"There are two people left on the missing list," a source at the Tatarstan Emergency Situations Ministry told ITAR-Tass Sunday.
The Bulgaria, which sank during a storm in the Kuibyshevskoye dam lake on July 10, is now on a bank close to the Kirelskoye boatyard. It will be turned into scrap after a full investigation is done.
Experts say ships like the Bulgaria, built in 1955, have service lives of no more than 20 years. The vessel hadn't been inspected since May 24, 2007.
"There must be no scapegoating in the investigation of the shipwreck. Everyone involved must be held responsible so that officials who permit a vessel to go on voyage mind their liabilities," President Dmitry Medvedev said. "There may be both disciplinary and criminal penalties, and the criminal penalty must be rather serious. Thus, we need a very thorough investigation based on a complex forensic analysis.
"The families of the dead will receive 1 million rubles [$36,006]; people with heavy and medium injuries will be paid 400,000 rubles [$14,402], while people with light injuries will have 200,000 rubles [$7,201]," said Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, adding "It is a big tragedy and the death toll is high, many children are dead. I once again express profound condolences on behalf of the Russian government."
