6.5 magnitude earthquake jolts Japan

SENDAI, Japan, July 23 (UPI) -- An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale shook Japan's northeastern Miyagi Prefecture region Saturday, but no tsunami warning was issued, officials say.

The quake occurred about 75 miles off the coast of Sendai, Miyagi, about 20 miles beneath the seabed, Xinhua, China's official news agency reported.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
