PALERMO, Italy, July 22 (UPI) -- Italian police said Friday they have arrested 40 suspected Mafia members in the city of Messina, Sicily.
The crimes charged include organized crime affiliation, drug trafficking, extortion and attempted extortion, loan sharking, operating illegal horse races and mistreating animals, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

The suspects are believed to be from the Giostra and Camaro neighborhoods of Messina.
