BELGRADE, Serbia, July 21 (UPI) -- Goran Hadzic, the last Balkans conflict war crimes fugitive captured, won't fight extradition from Serbia to the Netherlands, officials said.
Hadzic's attorney, Toma Fila, said his client would be extradited from Serbia to The Hague, Netherlands, after he visits with his family in Belgrade, B92 reported Thursday.
The extradition likely would take place Friday, Fila said.
Hadzic spent seven years hiding from the authorities before his capture Wednesday in a mountain village north of Belgrade. He is the ninth Balkans conflict fugitive arrested by Serbian authorities during the past eight years.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia based in The Hague indicted Hadzic in 2004 but he fled his home in Novi Sad before the indictment was delivered and had been a fugitive since. He was the last remaining fugitive of the 161 individuals the tribunal indicted.
Hadzic, former president of the self-proclaimed Republic of Serbian Krajina, was indicted for crimes against humanity and war crimes allegedly committed in the eastern Croatian city of Slavonia between 1991 and 1992, the United Nations said.
He allegedly participated in murdering hundreds of Croatians and other non-Serbian civilians, deporting or forcibly transferring tens of thousands of them, and imprisoning and confining hundreds of them in detention facilities within and outside of Croatia, the United Nations said.
