Moderate quake strikes Tokyo area

TOKYO, July 15 (UPI) -- A 5.5 earthquake struck central Japan, rattling office buildings in Tokyo and forcing the suspension of bullet train service, officials said.

The epicenter was about 35 miles north-northeast of Tokyo at a depth of about 37 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

No problems were reported at the area's nuclear power plants, including Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Fukushima Daiichi plant, damaged by a quake and tsunami on March 11, The Wall Street Journal said.

No tsunami warning was issued.
