ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, July 11 (UPI) -- Massive explosions at munitions storage facilities in Pakistan and Turkmenistan were the results of accidents and not terrorist attacks, authorities said.
One explosion at a Pakistani army weapons depot on the outskirts of Islamabad was near a police academy that militants have attacked in the past.
Three people were injured in the explosion, Britain's Daily Telegraph reported.
"It was not a terrorist act. It was an accident," a military official said, blaming faulty electrical wiring.
In Turkmenistan, an explosion in an arms dump near the capital Ashgabat on Thursday night that reportedly killed a dozen people was blamed on fireworks.
"The detonation of fireworks led to their dispersal to an army depot that contained explosives and ammunition from the former Soviet Union that were to be destroyed," President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said.
The town of Abadan where the explosion occurred would have to be "rebuilt from the ground up," he said.
