Two inmates confess to Yemen jailbreak

MUKALLA, Yemen, June 26 (UPI) -- Two prisoners confessed to digging a tunnel through which 63 inmates escaped from a jail in Mukalla, Yemen, an official said.

One prison guard and three inmates were killed in the operation, while two other inmates were arrested, an Interior Ministry official told Yemen's state-run Saba news agency.

Armed militants launched an attack on the prison Wednesday morning, including heavy artillery, facilitating the escape, Saba said in a report Sunday.

The prison's warden and deputy and several guards are being questioned, the report said. Some escapees have been convicted, while others are still awaiting trial.
