MOSCOW, June 23 (UPI) -- Russian aviation officials say someone aimed a laser beam at a plane landing at Moscow's Domodedovo International Airport, the third such incident in a month.
The Sibir Airlines jet from St. Petersburg to Moscow safely landed at the airport shortly before midnight Wednesday, RIA Novosti reported.
"Preliminary information shows that the plane was targeted by a laser from a distance of 5-6 kilometers [3 to 4 miles] from the village of Shakhovo," a source told RIA Novosti. "The pilots were not blinded because the laser beam hit the body of the plane."
Wednesday's event is one of 30 similar incidents since earlier this year. Earlier this month aviation authorities expressed concern over the increased incidents.
On June 20 in Rostov-on-Don, in southern Russia, someone tired to blind the crew of a police helicopter as it was landing.
