The strike came as a Qassam rocket fired from Gaza late Tuesday exploded in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council in the western Negev. Earlier, a mortar shell was fired at the same area. In both instances there were no reports of injuries or damage, the army said.

An army statement said Israel holds Hamas responsible for maintaining calm and will not tolerate attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.

There were no reports of injuries in Tuesday's strike, Ma'an news agency said.
