Spanish hackers block police Web site

MADRID, June 13 (UPI) -- The Web site for the Spanish police was blocked by online activist group Anonymous after three of its members were arrested last week, officials said.

The viral attack on the Spanish National Police's Web site occurred Sunday morning for almost an hour before officials were able to recover the site's portal, EFE reported.

The attack did not disrupt any of the agency's computer operations, police said.

The hackers apparently retaliated for the recent arrest of three alleged members who were charged with causing economic damage and breaching privacy laws.

The three were released last Friday and could face up to three years in jail.

Anonymous has targeted MasterCard and Visa for stopping payments to WikiLeaks and the Sony PlayStation Network.
