GAZA, June 4 (UPI) -- Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat Saturday urged Israel to acknowledge any peace deal must be based on the 1967 borders.

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has rejected the idea.

Interviewed by the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA from Gaza, Erekat endorsed French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe's call for both sides to halt unilateral actions, including Israeli settlement building.

Juppe visited Israel Friday, proposing a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine and for deciding their borders before addressing the difficult issues of Jerusalem and refugees.

France will hold a Middle East peace conference in July.
