Cooling interrupted at Fukushima No. 5

TOKYO, May 28 (UPI) -- The cooling system at the No. 5 reactor at Japan's Fukushima power plant stopped working Saturday, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said.

The reactor's temperature was 68 C and the fuel pool's was 41 C when a worker discovered the problem at 9 p.m. Saturday, Xinhua reported.

Tepco began work to switch to backup pumps at 8 a.m. Sunday, when those temperatures were recorded at 87 C and 44 C, respectively.
