Man allegedly made human stew

MOSCOW, May 26 (UPI) -- A man police said made a stew from the liver of an acquaintance he allegedly killed wants psychiatric help, not jail, officials in Moscow said.

Nikolai Shadrin, 40, a former butcher, is awaiting trial and denies he killed the victim, RIA Novosti reported Thursday. His attorney said he needs treatment, rather than isolation in a pretrial custody center.

Police raided Shadrin's apartment, where they found a stew allegedly made from a human liver. The police raid came after dismembered body parts were found scattered around Moscow.

Police allege Shadrin killed the victim after a drunken party at his apartment. He allegedly told another person not to say anything to police.

Shadrin said the victim died of "other causes."

Regarding claims he ate part of his alleged victim, Shadrin told police, "I did not like the corpse. I carved it like pork, and scattered across the district, in the river, manholes, and dumps. Why should I have buried him? I did not feel sympathy for him. He died and that is it."
