VICTORIA, British Columbia, May 25 (UPI) -- British Columbia officials say they have identified two male feet found washed ashore inside matching running shoes three years ago.
A statement issued by the coroner's service in Victoria said DNA testing had identified the feet as being from a 21-year-old man who disappeared from Surrey in 2004. His name was not released and the statement said foul play was not suspected, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said.
The first foot was found Feb. 8, 2008, on Valdes Island, while the match came ashore the following June, 18 miles away on Westham Island.
In all, seven feet in athletic shoes were found on southern British Columbia beaches from August 2007 through October 2009, the report said.
Coroner Stephen Fonseca told the Victoria Times-Colonist four of the feet have been traced to British Columbia men and the remaining three are known to be from a male and a female, as yet unidentified.
He said the families of all the people identified had been notified.
