THE HAGUE, Netherlands, May 17 (UPI) -- Libyan security forces are engaging in gang rape at checkpoints, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court charges.

Luis Moreno-Ocampo told CNN the court in The Hague is investigating the allegations.

"There are rapes. The issue is who organized them," he said. "They were committed in some police barracks. Were the policemen prosecuted? What happened?"

Moreno-Ocampo also said Gadhafi regime soldiers were reportedly using Viagra as a "tool of massive rape."

In April, Foreign Policy magazine and others reported Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, told the Security Council Moammar Gadhafi has been giving his troops Viagra pills "so they go out and rape."

It was not clear whether Moreno-Ocampo was using the term "Viagra" to cover male sexual enhancement drugs in general.

He said it was unknown how many women have been raped in the Libyan war.

"The shooting is in the public space. The arresting people is so massive, so pervasive," said Moreno-Ocampo. "What happens inside the barracks with women is more difficult to know."
