Mubarak's wife takes ill, heart suspected

CAIRO, May 14 (UPI) -- The 70-year-old wife of former Egyptian Hosni Mubarak was hospitalized in Sharm el-Sheikh for a suspected heart attack Saturday, a hospital official said.

Suzanne Mubarak was told Friday she would be detained by officials for questioning into suspected family corruption and wealth gains during her husband's 30 years in office.

Soon after, the woman called for medical help and was taken to intensive care and treated for a "suspected heart attack and a sharp increase in blood pressure," an official with the Sharm el-Sheikh hospital told the BBC.

Her 83-year-old husband is in the same hospital. He too, fell ill after being questioned about alleged "illegal acquisition of wealth," the report said.

The couple went to the Red Sea resort city after violent protests ousted Mubarak from power in February. There is now an interim military government, which has pledged to investigate all of the Mubarak family and his former ministers.

All of the Mubaraks' properties and known bank accounts have been frozen, prosecutors said.
