25,000 attend Toronto pot smoke-in

TORONTO, May 8 (UPI) -- About 25,000 people attended a daylong smoke-in in Toronto to push for better access to medicinal marijuana, organizer Gabe Simms said.

"People here are from all walks of life," Simms said in a Toronto Star report. "And whether they be lawyers or students, in some cases youth, they all at the end of the day believe Canada has to make some changes regarding the prohibition [of marijuana] and the difficulty for sick people to have access to medical marijuana."

Many of those attending the event at Queen's Park Saturday took part in a parade in downtown Toronto, where they carried signs and banners calling for decriminalization of marijuana.

Wilson Aguado, 55, brought his two children, both young adults, to the event.

"They've been smoking since high school," Aguado said. "I could never stop them. We're having a great time. For me, it's OK. I've been smoking since I was 11."
