PARIS, May 2 (UPI) -- Carla Bruni, the wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, asked about rumors she is pregnant, said French people don't care, as they have their own "worries."

Speaking with interviewers from the Le Parisien newspaper, Bruni said she did not want to discuss the rumors because she did not want to draw attention from her husband and his work.

"Nearly 180 percent of the time my husband is occupied by his country," Bruni said Friday. "He speaks only about that. He only does that. He is obsessed with it. Unfortunately for me, fortunately for everyone else.

"When talk about something else, it takes precedence over everything he does.

"I'm kind of lips sealed," she said. "Not out of arrogance or for a taste for secrecy; I'm mum to protect something and to protect all of the work he does."

Asked if she thought the French care whether the president will have another child, she said: "You think? You don't think that they care about their lives? They have so many worries.

"Personal life in these situations takes backseat, believe me. Even I, who am selfish like everyone else, I observed that my life came second.

"I am ultra-Sarkozyist," Le Parisien reported her as saying.
