BEIJING, April 27 (UPI) -- Eight miners trapped for about two days in a flooded coal mine in China's southwest Guizhou Province were found dead, authorities said.
The eight were working underground Sunday evening in the Xiao'aozi coal mine in the province's Liupanshui city when they got trapped after water entered the mine. The other 37 miners working with them managed to escape, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The victims' bodies were retrieved Tuesday evening, a city work safety official said.
The report said several nearby mines also were flooded but the cause of the flooding was not immediately known.
The report said the mine, with an annual output of 150,000, was operating legally.
