Protesters block trade route in Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, April 24 (UPI) -- Pakistanis upset over U.S. drone attacks against insurgents inside their territory staged a sit-in Sunday to block supplies for NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Protesters blocked a key roadway for moving supplies from the port of Karachi to landlocked Afghanistan, a move allowed by the local government, Dawn News reported.

Sources told Dawn organizers have asked suppliers to suspend shipments for two days.

Protesters have been angered by the drone attacks, which they say have killed Pakistanis.

"We are Pakistanis and have the same feelings like others against the killing of innocent people in drone attacks. We are ready to even support a strike longer than two days," Sarhad Goods Transport Owners Federation Senior Vice President Ashraf Khan told the paper.

The transportation route is frequently the target of hijackers.
