Canadians want strong exec, poll finds

OTTAWA, April 15 (UPI) -- Canadians want their next prime minister to have vision and leadership, a new poll finds.

Those executive qualities were chosen by 89 percent of voters surveyed by Monster.ca, the job-search site, Postmedia News reported Friday.

Other traits desired were communication skills, being a strong role model, being results-driven and having a track record of success.

Half also said the prime minister should be someone they would want to associate with personally.

"Monster fills thousands of senior-level positions every year, in both the private and public sector," said executive Mike Jackson. "Canadians recognize this is a serious job that requires important skills, skills not unlike those that would be required of a CEO."

The first question survey respondents said they would ask in a job interview is, "What is your vision for the country and for the future?"

Canada will conduct its general election May 2.

The telephone survey of 1,002 Canadians was taken from March 31 to April 3 with a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
